Job Description

Responsibilities:

• Create a positive, student-centered environment and work collegially with peers
• Prepare lessons to deliver to assigned classes (Computer Science I and IB Computer Science)
• Participate in school-sponsored IB training, if needed
• Meet school guidelines regarding grading, recordkeeping, and use of the learning management system to post timely information about classes
• Participate in school-wide activities such as workshops, special events, and professional meetings
• Engage in the life of Newark Academy

Desired Qualifications:

• Experience teaching computer science in middle school, upper school, or higher education settings. Professionals in industry or related fields or with non-traditional paths to education are also encouraged to apply.
• Bachelor’s degree is required; Master’s degree is preferred
• Topics include but are limited to: JAVA, System Fundamentals, Computer Organization, Networks, Computational Thinking, Problem Solving, and Programming, Object Oriented Programming
• Experience working with and supporting a diverse community of students, parents, and colleagues
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal)
• Experience working in independent schools is preferred but not required
• Flexibility to work on a rotating block schedule; classes do not run at the same time each day
