Job Description

In addition to the responsibilities outlined below, this position will partner closely with the other full-time NPS Counselor, along with Academic Leaders and members of the Student Support Team. The ideal candidate will possess a thorough knowledge of their field and have experience working in schools, preferably in an elementary school setting. In particular, the school seeks candidates who demonstrate effective communication skills, strong organizational skills, flexibility, a sense of humor, and a warm and empathetic character. 

Student Support

  • Meet with students individually and in groups as needed
  • Observe and assess students’ social-emotional functioning in order to collaborate on goals and objectives for support and progress
  • Organize and facilitate special groups of students as needed
  • Communicate with students’ outside therapists and other outside professionals as needed
  • Maintain accurate and complete records and confidential student files
  • Demonstrate knowledge and respect of differences in customs, communications, traditions, values, and other traits among students based on race, religion, ethnicity, nationality, sexual orientation, gender identity, physical or intellectual ability, and other factors

Teacher/School Support

  • Collaborate as an active member of the Student Support Team
  • Meet regularly with teams of teachers and administrators to discuss and share student social-emotional and wellness needs and accommodations. 
  • Develop, implement, and continually evaluate social-emotional curriculum for all grade-levels. 
  • Oversee the coordination and implementation of personal-social development curriculum in collaboration with Division Directors and other faculty members. 
  • Provide consultation to faculty and staff to help guide and support the social-emotional growth of students
  • Assess and respond to the social-emotional needs of the whole school
  • Provide professional development and consultation to faculty regarding mandated reporting, child development, student wellness support, and other related topics as needed

Family Support

  • Actively develop strong relationships with families and serve as a guide and support around social-emotional issues
  • Maintain regular communication with families, as needed
  • Participate in parent conferences as needed
  • Provide referrals as needed in consultation with families 

NPS faculty and staff are committed to providing an engaging program in a caring environment. Throughout the year, teachers are provided opportunities to participate in both school-based and off-site professional development. They also take part in ongoing Faculty Growth & Development by meeting with administration to set long and short-term goals, participating in observations, and reflecting on their progress and overall instructional practice. In their first year of employment at NPS, all teachers also meet regularly with an assigned New Faculty Mentor.

Salary is commensurate with experience with the range for this position at an annualized salary of $70,000-$95,000 including health care benefits and PTO.

These screenings are required to ensure the safety and security of our school community and comply with applicable laws and regulations.
