Essential Function

The Director of Broadcasting and Media Services will provide oversight and supervision for the operation and staff of the television studio, radio station and student lab. The director will collaborate with Mass Communication Program (MCM) faculty and work in partnership with other college department leaders on the development of media efforts and production of high-quality content for educational, informational and promotional purposes. The director will maintain operations and appropriate licensure of the school’s ITFS broadcast system, cable television channel, WRRG radio, and satellite down-link facility, as well as other appropriate media release applications.



Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s degree in radio, television, and film or related field (i.e., video production).


Experience: Minimum of 7 years’ experience in television and radio production, podcasting and live streaming, with a minimum of 3 years in a leadership or managerial role in the area of broadcast and media services, preferably in an educational setting.


Skills: Ability to conceptualize, produce, and distribute radio and television productions, podcasts, and live streams. Proven ability to manage video and broadcast productions from concept to completion, meeting deadlines and maintaining high quality content. Capable of training students and staff in all phases of production and equipment usage. Excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills. Experience with traditional, digital video and audio production. Working knowledge of current FCC rules and regulations, broadcast marketing strategies, and audience evaluation methods a plus. Computer literacy and experience with PC and Mac platforms, with an emphasis on video and audio editing software. Ability to work with outside clients, agencies, and the general public.



Responsibilities

Studio Operations

1. Supervise television and radio station full and part-time personnel.


2. Ensures all policies and procedures for departmental operations and staffing are followed.


3. Monitors and implements contractual and legal obligations and relationships with outside entities (ITFS lesse, cable companies, the FCC, etc.)


4. Assists in the development of annual budgets and monitors cost centers in both operational and auxiliary budgets.


5. Schedule and supervise satellite up-link and down-link transmissions.


Content Production and Academic Support

1. Oversees the creation and production of the college’s marketing and communication videos and commercials via cable, radio and other platforms to advance the college’s mission and delivery of messages.


2. Responsible for storyboarding, visualizing, shooting and editing video and other production content for distribution with adherence to lighting, blocking, direction, casting, editing, sound recording, including control room and editing/mixing.


3. Direct and supervise college audio and video marketing efforts under supervisory direction.


4. Ensure all content is consistent with the college’s branding and messaging guidelines.


5. Help with the selection and coordination of external video and photo vendors.


6. Collaborate with MCM faculty for content ideation and fostering opportunities for partnership and student involvement, particularly with WRRG.


Technical Oversight

1. Oversee the maintenance and operation of all broadcast and multimedia equipment.


2. Facilitates staffing and training for the operation of the college’s television and radio systems in collaboration with MCM faculty.


3. Consult with MCM faculty concerning equipment acquisition and provide technical expertise and support to faculty for the delivery of video and audio instructional materials, along with providing student guidance of television and radio resources and student lab.


4. Implement and manage workflows for content production, post-production and distribution of digital content.


5. Schedule video, filming and related photography with departments, offices, and interview subjects.


6. Other duties as assigned.
