Job Description

Olympia Food Industries is a leading meat manufacturing facility specializing in the production of high-quality Greek and Mediterranean foods. Our state-of-the-art plant features a diverse range of production lines, including a bakery line for flatbreads, a modest pizza topping line, and a dedicated sauce room. Shift: Starts at 6:00 AM, generally running 10 hours per day 

Schedule: Regularly Monday to Friday with a 1-hour break 

Starting Pay: Competitive, based on knowledge, experience, resume, and references. That said, starting pay may end up being more than what’s posted here dependent on your experience & credentials.

Summary

Olympia Food Industries is seeking an experienced and dedicated Mechanic to join our maintenance team. In this role, you will be responsible for assisting in installing, maintaining, repairing, and performing preventative maintenance on large, complex, and intricate equipment across various production lines, including meat processing, bakery, pizza toppings, and sauce production. Additionally, you will support the maintenance of our facility’s critical systems, such as electrical & refrigeration, & assist with any construction projects within the plant. The ideal candidate will possess advanced electrical systems skills along with HVAC, welding, fabrication, robotics, and/or ammonia refrigeration, ensuring the smooth and safe operation of our manufacturing processes.

Qualifications

  • Education:
    • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent
    • Technical training or certification in mechanical maintenance is a plus
  • Experience:
    • Proven experience in industrial maintenance, preferably in food manufacturing or similar environments
    • Advanced electrical skills
  • Skills:
    • Proficient in installing, maintaining, and repairing complex industrial equipment
    • Strong troubleshooting and problem solving abilities
    • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, blueprints, and schematics
    • Computer literacy and experience with maintenance management systems
  • Certifications ( Highly Preferred, though not needed ):
    • OSHA 30-Hour Certification
    • Certified Maintenance & Reliability Professional (CMRP)
    • Refrigeration Technician Certification (e.g., EPA Section 608)
    • Certified Welding Inspector (CWI)
    • Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) Certification
  • Physical Requirements:
    • Able to lift up to 60 pounds unassisted
    • Capable of performing physical tasks such as bending, lifting, pushing, pulling, walking, grasping, and reaching
    • Comfortable standing for long periods, climbing stairs and ladders, and working in variable temperatures (-10°F to 80°F)
  • Other Requirements:
    • Very strong organizational skills
    • Excellent vision, both near and far, with or without corrective lenses
    • Clear oral and written English communication skills
    • Ability to work overtime and irregular hours when necessary
    • Able to easily adapt to changing circumstances 
    • Ability to maintain a positive work environment
    • Compliance with safety and sanitation standards, including GMPs, HACCP, and SQF guidelines
    • Ability to perform Lockout & Tagout procedures as required

Responsibilities

Maintenance and Repair:

  • Assist to install, maintain, & repair large & complex equipment across all production lines.
  • Maintain and repair facility-wide systems such as electrical, refrigeration, and other critical infrastructure
  • Perform preventative maintenance to minimize downtime and extend equipment lifespan
  • Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical, electrical, and refrigeration issues promptly and effectively

Support and Collaboration:

  • Assist with the preparation and support of any construction or renovation projects within the facility
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure seamless operations and address maintenance needs
  • Support crew members and operations of other departments as needed

Safety and Compliance:

  • Report any unsafe or hazardous work conditions or behaviors immediately
  • Ensure adherence to all safety protocols and guidelines, including GMPs, HACCP, SQF, OSHA, USDA, and FDA regulations
  • Maintain a high level of awareness regarding product and personnel safety and sanitation
  • Ensure all work areas are clean and organized, adhering to food safety standards
  • Work alongside the on-site USDA officer, Quality Assurance, & Sanitation to ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements

Administrative Duties:

  • Maintain reliable and accurate record-keeping of maintenance activities and equipment status
  • Complete all necessary paperwork and forms punctually and accurately
  • Educate and train team members on maintenance procedures and safety practices

Work Environment

  • Physical Demands:
    • Variable temperatures ranging from -10°F to 80°F within the facility
    • Frequent physical activities including bending, lifting, pushing, pulling, walking, grasping, and reaching
    • Standing and stationary work, climbing stairs and ladders, lifting, and squatting
    • Working near moving mechanical parts 
  • Safety and Compliance:
    • Strict prohibition of jewelry, piercings, and mobile phones in all work areas, except for securely fastened wedding bands and double-clasp medical bracelets, in compliance with food industry regulations.
    • Mandatory use of protective gear where appropriate to ensure safety in manufacturing and industrial settings
    • Daily presence of a USDA officer to oversee and enforce compliance with food safety and regulatory standards
