The UW Population Health Institute (UWPHI), in collaboration with the Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS), seeks an experienced epidemiologist to support maternal health programs at DHS. This position will be based at DHS and will support DHS programming. Under the supervision of the Data and Evaluation Unit Supervisor in the Family Health Section, Bureau of Community Health Promotion, Division of Public Health, at DHS, the Maternal Health Epidemiologist will provide epidemiologic support to two programs: the Maternal Mortality Review (MMR) program and the Maternal Health Innovation (MHI) program.
The primary responsibilities include working with the Wisconsin Vital Records Office for case identification, screening potential cases for inclusion and confirmation of pregnancy-association and ensuring data quality. The epidemiologist will also assist abstractors in entering data into Maternal Mortality Review Information Application (MMRIA), provide data leadership and technical assistance to program staff and the Maternal Mortality Review Team (MMRT), analyze MMRIA data, and develop reports to disseminate information related to maternal mortality and morbidity, including MMRT recommendations. The epidemiologist will conduct additional analyses related to maternal health using a variety of data sources, lead and participate in efforts to better understand the data needs of communities most impacted by maternal mortality and morbidity, and work with the Maternal Health Impact Coordinator to support data-to-action efforts. They will closely collaborate with the MHI/PRAMS Epidemiologist to support the MHI program. Master's Degree in population health, public health, sociology, social work, human ecology, or related field is required (for example, epidemiology, health sciences, informatics, biostatistics, data science).
Required:
- At least two years of experience with data management and data analysis, utilizing statistical analysis packages (such as SPSS, SAS, R, Python or STATA), and database and spreadsheet software (such as Microsoft Excel).
- Experience with data management, data entry, data cleaning techniques, and descriptive and inferential analysis. For example, this includes the ability to assess uses, limitations, and quality of different types of data, as well as identify the significance of findings and make data-informed recommendations.
- Experience with maternal health-related datasets or programs.
Full or Part Time: 80% - 100%

The minimum salary for the position is $70,000 but is negotiable based on experience and qualifications.
