Reporting to the Senior Manager of the Nuclear Remote Design team at the Materials and Fuels Complex, you will play a hands-on role in designing and developing remotely operated mechanical systems used in hot cells for advanced nuclear research. You will participate in conceptual design, mock-up reviews, redlining engineering drafts, overseeing fabrication, and testing mechanical components to ensure optimal performance. Working alongside experienced engineers, you will gain real-world experience in mechanical design, robotics, and automation while contributing to cutting-edge innovations in nuclear energy. To excel in this role, you should have coursework in strength of materials, machine design, fluid dynamics, and mechanical engineering design. This internship will allow you to apply your engineering skills in a collaborative environment.

This team works a 4x10 schedule and works onsite at the Materials and Fuels Complex next Idaho Falls Idaho. Start date and duration of internship vary based on project and student availability. You may be eligible for course credit for this internship if approved by your university.

 

Qualifications

 

• Undergraduate Junior/Senior or Graduate Masters student enrolled full time at an accredited college/university studying Mechanical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology.
• A minimum overall 3.0 GPA
• Authorization to work in the U.S. (including CPT and OPT)

Compensation and Benefits:

• Undergraduate Internships ($26.16/hour - $31.47/hour)
• Masters Internships and PhD Internships Pre-Candidacy ($32.87/hour - $35.26/hour)
• PhD Internships Post-Candidacy ($35.95/hour - $38.41/hour)
• Eligible interns are provided paid holiday time off, and many of our internships offer travel reimbursements.
• Multi-Level: This is a multi-level posting and you will be placed at the appropriate level dependent on degree field and level of education.
