Remote, long-term contract opportunity!

System One is seeking a Nuclear Design & Shielding Principle Engineer , for a long term contract opportunity, with a remote work model .

This role is part-time.

Responsibilities:

• Mentor nuclear design engineers on radiation shielding design and analysis for advanced nuclear reactors, including development of UM models of nuclear systems, calculating dose, energy deposition rates, gas production rates, and developing radiation source term based on materials activation analysis for non-fuel in-vessel components.
• Consult about shielding strategies and best practices for new applications of nuclear power – eg. floating nuclear power plants.
• Consult about shielding strategies and best practices for MCFR fuel cycle facilities.
• Serve as an independent radiation transport subject matter expert

Ideal Background:

• B.S. degree in Nuclear Engineering or equivalent experience and 30+ years of nuclear-related industry experience
• Shielding experience with experimental reactors, molten salt reactors and/or fuel cycle facilities.
• Knowledgeable of nuclear shielding design concepts to meaningfully support engineering team with understanding of systems being designed.
• Experience in radiation shielding design and analysis.
• Experience with engineering and scientific computer codes: Attila, MCNP, SCALE, and ORIGEN.
• Experience with computed aided drafting (e.g., SolidWorks, SpaceClaim/ANSYS)
• Excellent verbal and communication skills.
• Ability and professionalism to work within published regulatory guidelines for nuclear reactor design.
• Fast reactor experience preferred.
• An ability to perform professional-quality software development for nuclear applications is preferred.
• Experience working under NQA-1 quality program desired.
• The successful candidate will possess a high degree of trust and integrity, communicate openly and display respect, and a desire to foster teamwork.
