Job Description

As Student Support Specialist, you would be working directly with all 80+ students and 20+ passionate educators with diverse interests and backgrounds.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

• Oversee Learning Support Program
• Teach 9th Grade Seminar (study & life skills class)
• Manage learning accommodations system (in-house and standardized testing)
• Meet students individually in one-on-one meetings around mental health, organization, study skills & executive functioning
• Supporting administration in the social-emotional aspects of disciplinary events and restorative processes and risk management that include mental health factors
• Consultations with parents, teachers, and outside mental health providers for identifying and supporting behavioral and academic needs

Study Skills & Academic Support :

• Manage learning accommodation system (in-house and testing)
• Meet students individually about mental health, organization, study skills, and executive functioning
• Support school leadership in social-emotional aspects of disciplinary events
• Consult with parents, teachers, and external mental health providers to identify and support behavioral and academic needs
• Teach 9th grade seminar (study & life skills course)

Minimum Qualifications or Experience

• Experience teaching learning strategies to neurodivergent learners
• School-based counseling skills including group mediation and conflict resolution
• Experience in understanding and interpreting neuropsychological and psychoeducational evaluations
• Highly organized and able to effectively manage time independently
• Enthusiasm for working with teenagers
• Outstanding verbal & written communication skills
• Sense of humor and friendly demeanor
• B.A. or higher, LSSP and/or LEP
• Successful passing of criminal & driving checks
• Health clearance for TB screening

Desired Qualifications or Experience

• NCSP, LCSW, and/or PPS
• Related academic degree
• Prior experience with secondary level academic support
• Boarding or residential educational environments
• Other diverse skills and interests to share with our community
• Experience working in a mission-focused environment with adolescents & their families

Small California boarding school — Grades 9 to 12 — Full-time, exempt (part-time possible) August-June academic year — Salary range* $75,000 - $95,000 — Position starts August 2025
