Job Description
As a Substitute Teacher, you'll have the opportunity to provide high school-level instruction to adult students, ages 18 and over, during the absence of regular classroom teachers. You may use remote instruction from various learning centers across California, primarily serving counties such as Nevada, Riverside, Monterey, Kern, Los Angeles (Antelope Valley), Merced, Ventura, and Butte. In this role, you'll be supporting a culturally diverse population of learners through both synchronous and asynchronous teaching methods.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Your role will include a variety of responsibilities to ensure the success of your students:
Lesson Planning: Prepare engaging, multi-subject lessons for diverse students in a self-contained classroom environment.
Course Implementation: Deliver lessons through the Canvas learning management system, using both online and in-class methods.
Student Assessment: Observe, evaluate, and assess student performance both online and in-person, providing constructive feedback and support.
Grading & Record Keeping: Assign and grade assignments, projects, tests, and in-class work, maintaining accurate records using the Aeries student information system.
Student Support: Collaborate with school counselors to offer guidance on career opportunities, employment, and continuing education.
Classroom Management: Manage student behavior and foster a positive learning environment, encouraging students to uphold high standards of conduct.
Culturally Relevant Teaching: Provide culturally relevant, inclusive lessons to students from a range of backgrounds and life experiences.

Mandatory Requirements
Health Clearance: Must have tuberculosis (TB) clearance or obtain TB clearance before starting the role.
Background Check: Must pass a background check through the Department of Justice (DOJ).
Education and Experience
Required: A Bachelor's degree.
Required: A 30-day substitute permit or multiple/single subject teaching credential.
Preferred: Experience working with rural, farm-working communities is a plus, though not required.
Certifications
Food Handlers Certificate: Must have or be able to complete the training within 30 days of hire.
Mandated Reporter Training: Must complete the Child Care Providers Mandated Reporter certificate within 90 days of hire.
Travel Requirements
Must be able to travel as needed.
Language Skills
Preferred: Bilingual in Spanish, though not required.
Physical Demands
This position requires a variety of physical activities, including:
Frequent use of hands, standing, sitting, and reaching.
Occasional lifting of up to 40 pounds.
Specific vision requirements for close tasks.
The ability to sit for long periods at a desk and work on a computer.
