The Carbon Welder is Responsible for welding and fabricating carbon steel components used in subsea equipment such as umbilicals, flowlines, and associated infrastructure. This role requires expertise in carbon steel welding processes, adherence to industry standards, and the ability to work in a high-precision, safety-critical environment. Essential Requirements, Duties and Responsibilities: Perform GMAW (MIG), FCAW, SMAW, welding on carbon steel components used in subsea applications. Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, welding procedures, and work instructions to ensure precise fabrication. Weld pipes, structural components, and pressure-containing parts in accordance with ASME, API, and other industry codes. Conduct pre-weld and post-weld inspections, ensuring weld integrity and compliance with NDT (non-destructive testing) standards. Work with engineers, inspectors, and quality control personnel to troubleshoot and resolve welding issues. Operate welding equipment, cutting torches, grinders, and other fabrication tools safely and efficiently. Follow all workplace safety regulations, including PPE usage, hot work permits, and confined space entry protocols. Maintain a clean and organized work area, ensuring all welding tools and materials are properly handled and stored. Assist in training and mentoring junior welders as needed. Education and/or Experience: High school diploma or equivalent; welding certification (AWS, ASME, or API 1104) preferred. Minimum 3-5 years of experience in carbon steel welding, preferably in the oil and gas or subsea industry. Must successfully complete welding tests to perform job duties. Proficiency in carbon steel welding techniques, including root pass, fill pass, and cap pass welding. Experience with pressure welding and structural welding in a manufacturing or fabrication shop environment. Familiarity with subsea umbilical manufacturing, pipe welding, and assembly processes is a plus. Ability to work in confined spaces, at heights, and in offshore conditions if required. Strong understanding of welding metallurgy, heat treatment, and corrosion resistance. Knowledge of NDT methods (UT, RT, MT, PT) and their application to weld inspections. Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
