Lab Technician in Livestock Microbiome Science- Animal Science Department

Department Information

Assisting students and families understand financial aid for their academic career: The Animal Science department is one of the largest departments in the CALSNR. We provide a vast array of undergraduate and graduate courses and programs, as well as many extra-curricular activities, like judging and quiz bowl teams. The goal of our departmental work study's are to provide them with opportunities to advance their skills and connections to obtain a valuable job after their completion at UW.

Clients served in department/area are Students, Faculty, and Staff.

Job location: Animal Science/Molecular Biology Building

Pay rate or range: $15/hr.

Job Purpose

This job is designed to expose students to multiple avenues of microbiome sciences from animal research models, molecular lab techniques (DNA isolation, library preparation, sequencing), to "omics" based analysis. The job would include hands on livestock, lab, and analytical experience.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

Assist in animal management, sample collection, lab work, and data management/ analysis. Training will be provided for each of these aspects - experience in one or multiple areas is preferred.

Minimum Qualifications

Education Agriculture and STEM majors preferred.

ExperienceNo Experience Required.

Other requirements: Must be eligible, have received and accepted work study award through Student Financial Aid for the applicable semester and/or academic year.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience in one or multiple areas of the following: animal management, sample collection, lab work and data management/analysis preferred.
