Job Title : Senior Power BI/SQL Developer

Client: Virginia Information Technology Agency

Location: Richmond VA
Position Type: Contract (6 months)

About the Role:

The candidates will have strong problemsolving organizational and communication skills and will be instrumental in the Data Quality Enhancement initiative. These individuals will collaborate with the Data Office Business IT and other stakeholders to ensure the development optimization and maintenance of Power BI reports dashboards and SQL queries.

Roles and Responsibilities:

• Power BI/SQL Support: Assist with the development performance enhancement and documentation of Power BI and SQL solutions related to the Data Quality Enhancement initiative and other ongoing development projects.
• Data Security Compliance: Maintain the confidentiality of all business data and adhere to VRS data security policies.
• Project Management: Meet all agreedupon deliverables within established timeframes and provide regular status updates.
• Power BI Development: Design develop and maintain Power BI reports and dashboards to meet business requirements and enhance decisionmaking processes.
• Data Visualization & Reporting: Create interactive visualizations and dashboards to monitor Critical Data Elements (CDEs) and provide insights.
• DAX Optimization: Develop DAX queries to optimize report performance and functionality.
• SQL Development & Optimization: Write and optimize complex SQL queries and stored procedures to manipulate and retrieve data efficiently.
• Business Collaboration: Work closely with business stakeholders to gather data requirements and transform them into actionable reports and visualizations.
• Performance Tuning: Review and enhance SQL queries execution plans partitions and indexes to improve performance for longrunning queries.
• Process Improvement: Convert manual Excelbased data manipulation tasks into automated and optimized data solutions to improve process efficiency.
• EndUser Support: Provide training and support to endusers on Power BI and SQL tools.
• Special Projects: Undertake special projects as directed by the Chief Operating Officer or Data Officer.

Required Skills and Experience:

• Power BI Development: Minimum 5 years of handson experience designing and developing reports dashboards and data visualizations using Power BI.
• SQL Server Development: Minimum 5 years of experience in SQL Server development including writing complex SQL queries stored procedures and performance tuning.
• DAX Expertise: Strong experience with writing complex DAX queries to enhance report performance.
• SQL Server Data Modeling: Experience in MS SQL Server data modeling and schema design.
• Agile Experience: Experience working in an Agile development environment.
• Independent & Teamwork Skills: Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with business and technical stakeholders.
• Problem Solving & Analytical Skills: Strong problemsolving and analytical skills to resolve complex datarelated issues.
• Communication: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for interacting with crossfunctional teams.

Desired Skills:

• Pension Benefit Management: Experience working with Pension Benefit Management programs.
• Additional BI Tools: Experience with other BI tools such as Tableau or QlikView.
• Programming Knowledge: Familiarity with programming languages such as Python or R.
• Cloud Platforms: Familiarity with cloud platforms like Azure or AWS.
• Certifications: Microsoft Certified: Data Analyst Associate or equivalent and other relevant certifications in SQL data analysis or database management.

Education and Experience:

• Education: Bachelor s degree in Computer Science Information Technology Data Analytics or a related field preferred.
• Experience: Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience with technology or data organizations required.
